Our History (The History of Real Estate)
Hello. My name is Carol Presutti. I came into the real estate business in 1992. I started as a sales associate with a large firm and worked hard to establish my credentials as a top producer in the Farmington Valley.
In late 1999, I felt that I needed a change. My entrepreneurial spirit was sinking because I felt increasingly exploited. I was becoming ever more frustrated because decisions were being made that affected my bottom line without my approval or consent. In addition, the quality of service that my clients were getting from other people within the company was declining as management sought to sell more and more services to them. I felt this somehow reflected on me. Finally, I came to the conclusion that I needed to find a place where I could grow, be happy and offer the best possible service to my clients.
I interviewed many large and small companies in search of that special place, but I couldn't find it. One November day, I concluded that what I wanted did not exist in the market place. When I got home, I asked my husband "What are we doing in 2000?" "Why?" he asked. I replied "because I want to start my own real estate company."
After thinking it over for a couple of days, he agreed to be my broker and create a new company. Sal was a real estate broker since approximately1980 so he was quite familiar with the business. It was agreed that the company would be founded upon a Mission Statement that would set us apart from the competition. It would serve as a guide to anyone who contemplated joining or doing business with us.
Q-Real Estate was born on January 1, 2000 with only the two of us. Today, there are many more of us located in several offices with more on the way.
The day we agreed to start this company, we got into the car and drove down Route 4 in Farmington to see what spaces were available. A "For Rent" sign went into the window of our current office that very day. I am sure that it was meant to be.
It was a humble beginning. We started out with 600 square feet in an old two story building with a gravel parking lot that sometimes resembles a moonscape with large water puddles when it rains. And we often joke that going up the stairs to the second floor is like trying to walk up the stairs of an old boat in a storm. The stairs are narrow and slope to one side.
Sal brought out his carpenter tools and set to work building work-stations in a room with not one square corner. He installed a door in a bathroom that had none. He went on to design and install off-the-shelf cabinets and counters for work space. Then we found a conference table and chairs at an estate sale. Finally, while Sal set about ordering equipment and second hand office furniture, I was preparing for our grand opening.
The grand opening party was fun. We had all these people crammed into this tiny space to wish us well. It was like stuffing live sardines holding wine glasses into a can. What a way to start a business!
Today is thriving. Our brand and service reputation is well established in the market place. People report to us that they see our eye-catching and distinctive signs everywhere.
More and more real estate agents are requesting to meet with us to discuss our culture, our plans and the possibilities for them finding a home with us. People in the business are finding out that agents can join our Company by invitation only. Only people who can abide by our non-negotiable ethical and moral standards will be invited or allowed to join. Word is also getting out that Q Real Estate is really a fun place to work.
Our company is structured to allow everyone the opportunity to be an owner. Each and every full time member of from staff to sales person, will have the opportunity to become an owner and/or partner in the Company.
It is our goal and our mission to help every real estate agent succeed as both an independent contractor and as part of a successful and growing company.
As we move forward from here, we will open new offices and invite many more people to join our company. Our expansion will increase our presence in many communities. Growth will allow us to introduce new and creative services that will deliver true value. Our goal is to become the preeminent real estate company for discriminating buyers and sellers of real estate as well as for the successful real estate professionals. To do that we have to deliver more than we promise - and we will continue to do so.
In conclusion, the story of is a journey in progress. I am both proud and happy to have so many wonderful people supporting our company and our mission.
